Smart and Smooth – The Town Tongue and Groove Gate

Looking for a tongue and groove gate that combines strength, style, and minimal maintenance? The Town Gate ticks all the boxes. Made using the traditional tongue and groove joinery, this gate offers a clean, seamless finish that’s ideal for any garden, side path, or outdoor entrance way. All gates are ~1.78m tall.

The design isn’t just about looks. The tongue and groove structure creates a tight interlocking fit between boards, meaning no unsightly gaps and a gate that can stand up to the outdoor environment. Each board is fixed securely to a solid timber frame using corrosive resistant fixings, and strengthened further with diagonal bracing to reduce any sagging over time.

Made from softwood timber and pressure treated with a copper-based solution (except the 6′ wide version – which is untreated), this gate is designed to resist rot and weathering – cutting down on the need for frequent upkeep. A quick re-treat after a couple of years and it’ll be good to go for many more.

It works brilliantly as a standalone gate at the side of a house, or as part of a larger fence panel setup. Either way, it’ll hold its own both structurally and visually.

Our selection of tongue and groove gates are universal excluding the 4′ wide gates which have a left handed and right handed alternative. The difference between the handed versions is the angle the bracing is setup. The other versions of this gate have a universal brace, allowing the gate to be hung from either side while maintaining the support, no matter the side the hinges are installed.

It is strongly recommended to fit two Brenton Bolts on the gate. One on the top and one on the bottom of the gate to reduce warping when closed.
