Capital Grants 2026 Opening Soon – Have You Sourced Your Materials?

Beef cattle feeding in a farm building, representing agricultural infrastructure and farm improvement projects that may be eligible under Capital Grants 2026.

Farmers and land managers across England will soon be able to apply for the Capital Grants 2026 scheme, with applications expected to open in late July 2026. The scheme offers funding for a wide range of environmental and infrastructure improvements, including hedgerow planting, boundary works, water quality measures and natural flood management initiatives.

With a funding budget of £225 million available for 2026, many farmers are already beginning to plan projects and gather information ahead of the application window opening. Demand is expected to be high once again, so early preparation could be beneficial for those considering an application.

What Are Capital Grants?

Capital Grants are designed to support practical improvements that deliver environmental benefits across farms and rural land. Funding is available for a variety of activities, with one of the main categories covering boundaries, trees and orchards which includes BN5 Hedgerow Laying and FG12 Wooden Field Gates. Another big category is water quality improvements, which includes items such as, FG1 Fencing, FG2 Sheep Net, LV7 Livestock Troughs and RP13 Underground Drainage Pipework. For a deeper dive into the fencing specific grants see our earlier blog post. Other categories include air quality improvements and natural flood management projects.

Many of these projects involve the installation, repair or enhancement of farm boundaries, making quality fencing materials an important consideration when planning grant-funded work.
