Visibility is a key factor when choosing conductive materials for electric fences, as animals need to see the fence to understand it as a barrier. The colour choice is crucial; less visible colours for humans are also harder for animals to detect.

Polywire, being thinner than tape, is less visible but offers good conductivity. It’s recommended for containing slower-moving livestock like cattle, pigs, and sheep. Typically, polywire includes 3 to 9 strands of metal filament woven into it, making it flexible and easy to use.
